Dover sits at the narrowest point of the English Channel — just 21 miles to the French coast. P&O Ferries and DFDS run frequent crossings to Calais (about 90 minutes) and DFDS also operates to Dunkirk (about two hours). Check-in is normally 75 minutes before sailing. The Dover Channel crossings are vehicle-only — cars, motorhomes, motorcycles and coaches are carried, but not foot passengers.
