Oban to Craignure is the main ferry to the Isle of Mull, CalMac's busy crossing from the harbour town of Oban taking around 45 minutes across the Firth of Lorn. Oban is the 'Gateway to the Isles', its bay framed by hills and McCaig's Tower, with a railway station and good road links, and Craignure is Mull's principal ferry port. From there the island opens up to the colourful waterfront of Tobermory, the white-sand beaches, sea-eagles and the onward boats to Iona, Staffa and the puffins. The ferry carries cars, motorhomes, bikes and foot passengers, with several sailings a day, and vehicle space is in high demand in summer, so booking ahead is strongly advised. It is the quickest and most direct way to reach Mull and the Inner Hebrides beyond.
