Mallaig to Armadale is the scenic sea route to the Isle of Skye, CalMac's crossing of around 30 to 45 minutes from the West Highland fishing port of Mallaig over the Sound of Sleat. While the Skye Bridge offers a road link to the north of the island, this ferry lands you in the gentle, green Sleat peninsula in the south, often called the 'Garden of Skye', and makes a beautiful approach with the Cuillin mountains rising beyond. Mallaig is the end of the famous West Highland Line and the Road to the Isles from Fort William, so the crossing pairs well with a rail or scenic-drive trip. The ferry carries cars, motorhomes, bikes and foot passengers, with several sailings a day in season. Booking vehicle space ahead is recommended through the busy summer months.
Around 30 to 45 minutes across the Sound of Sleat to the Isle of Skye.
CalMac (Caledonian MacBrayne) runs the Mallaig to Armadale crossing.
Not strictly — but the ferry lands you in southern Skye and pairs beautifully with the West Highland rail and scenic-drive route from Fort William.
